The Receiver of Taxes is responsible for the preparation, distribution, and payment of more than 51,000 property tax bills in the Town of Southampton. In doing so, the Tax Receivers Office ensures the safe custody of the Towns tax and assessment roll, as well as its tax warrant, from the Suffolk County Legislature. Between the months of December and May, the Tax Receivers Office collects more than $350 million in revenues and disburses those funds to Southamptons:
The Tax Receiver also works closely with other town departments, especially the Towns Sole Assessor and the Hampton Bays Water District, serving as the fiduciary officer. In each of these respective capacities, the Tax Receivers Office will process more than 1,500 assessment roll corrections, and handle the Water Districts monthly revenue remittances and bank reconciliations.
