Supervisor Holds Public Hearing On The Sufficiency Of The Petition By East Quogue Voters To Hold A Vote On Incorporation

Several dozen residents turned out for a public hearing on Wednesday August 14, 2019 at 6pm at the East Quogue Fire Department on the sufficiency of the petition in favor of holding a public vote on the possible incorporation of the Village of East Quogue.  Pursuant to state law, Supervisor Jay Schneiderman held the hearing to listen to those who challenged the sufficiency of the petition.   There were very few people who spoke.

Under state law, the Supervisor will be the sole decider on whether the petition is sufficient to call the vote.  The hearing is now closed and the Supervisor has ten days to make his decision.

Whether the decision is for or against a public vote, once the Supervisor files his decision, there is a 30 day timeframe within which his decision can be challenged.  At the conclusion of that 30 day period, or a final order of a court, if challenged, and if the decision is in favor of holding a public vote, a notice of Election would then be posted within 10 days.  A public vote could then take place within 20 to 30 days after the posting of said Notice of Election.
